Mechanical Assembly Technician

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineering / Assembly Technician to provide hands on mechanical and low voltage electrical assembly support to assemble, maintain, and troubleshoot chemical process R&D test stands to facilitate their operations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assembly, modification, and maintenance of bench and pilot scale test stands. 
  • Collaboration in the design of test setups to support R&D requirements.
  • Design and assembly of mechanical frames, stands, component mounting brackets using varied materials such as metal strut channel, lumber, plastic, etc. 
  • Working with suppliers and fabricators to source, procure, and expedite components.
  • Maintain shop facility, tools, and supplies as needed. 
  • Provide experience and shop know-how.

Required Skills, Education, and Experience:

  • Legally able to work in Canda on a permanent basis (Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident).
  • Education such as a trade’s certificate, or technology related diploma.
  • 2 – 5 years of combined work experience in mechanical assembly and low voltage hook up, fabrication, and maintenance. 
  • Experience in a R&D or similar fast pace, fluid environment.
  • Ability to interpret engineering criteria, fabrication sketches, and other engineering drawings for assembly.
  • Light construction experience including but not limited to, mounting of equipment, running smaller bore piping and tubing (compression, threaded, etc.), solvent welding PVC
  • CPVC piping, wiring low voltage electronics and instrumentation.
  • High degree of competency with shop bench and hand tools (for working with metal, plastics, and wood) is a requirement.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and be an effective communicator.
  • Strong aptitude for problem solving, troubleshooting, and time management.
  • Competent with MS Office software such as Excel, Word.
  • Lab and chemical handling experience is an asset.
  • CAD and Solid Modeling experience is an asset.

Salary: $55,000 - $72,000 based on experience.

Engineering Co-op

Competencies Required:

  • Chemical or mechanical engineering student who has completed at least 2 years of an engineering program
  • Strong attention to detail and critical thinking skills, with ability to adapt to change
  • High level of initiative and enthusiastic to learn more about engineering R&D work
  • Good time management, with the ability to organize, prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills
  • Able to lift at least 25lb
  • Chemical laboratory experience an asset
  • Minor construction / hands-on experience an asset

Salary: $3,000 - $4,000 per month
