Senior Research Chemist

AGEIAS is seeking an experimental research chemist to support chemical process development and lab operations. This role will be responsible for designing, executing, managing, and documenting experiments that fill knowledge gaps for chemical process scale-up across a broad range of applications.

As a key member of the research team, the Research Chemist proposes research direction, measurement techniques, and experimental plans that will measure key parameters identified by the engineering team during their scale-up work. The role also involves developing novel measurement techniques, operating analytical equipment, handling a wide range of chemicals, and reporting results in a clear and concise manner to the engineering team. Ability to work in a contract-based research environment, flexibility to use analytical equipment in novel ways, and broad chemical knowledge are critical as the subject matter changes depending on the client.

Qualifications

  • PhD in chemistry (analytical, synthesis) or a Process Chemistry qualification with a background in R&D.
  • 5+ years' experience in an industrial chemistry lab (working with hazardous chemicals such as oxidants, acids, and bases)
  • Knowledge of the analytical fundamentals for a broad range of instruments.
  • Knowledge of chemical engineering concepts would be an asset.
  • Experience in experimental platform design to generate kinetic and thermodynamic data of a chemical reaction.
  • Experience in experimental platform design to investigate compound separation and purification based on large scale industrial techniques.
  • Experience with analytical instrumentation operation, maintenance, and data interpretation for a range of analytic instruments (i.e. UV-vis, FTIR, HPLC, GC-MS, DLS, NMR, ICP, etc.).
  • Experience in lab scale glassware handling for chemical transfer and manipulation.
  • Demonstrated experience where analytical fundamentals were used in a novel way to investigate specific properties would be an asset.
  • Experience in experimental platform design and techniques to generate physical properties data like density, viscosity, heat capacity, etc. of novel compounds would be an asset.
  • Experience in storage and handling of air/moisture sensitive chemicals would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team of diverse technical expertise.
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to deliver key findings in an audience tailored and concise manner.
